Documents to Bring

When moving abroad, either permanently or temporarily, it is important to have originals or copies of many important documents. This list of documents varies depending on where you are moving to, but we have found that these documents were necessary for moving to Norway.

The list below is in alphabetical order. It is not necessarily comprehensive and is definitely not in order of importance. Remember to bring details and documents for yourself and for each person moving with you. Some documents (e.g. school transcripts, professional certification, civil status documents, etc.) may need to be translated into Norwegian in some instances.

• Bank account details
• Birth certificate
• Car registration and service documentation, if you are importing a car
• Credit card details
• Curriculum vitae or resumé
• Dental records
• Divorce papers, including agreements on alimony
• Driving license
• Education certificates (elementary, secondary and tertiary and vocational) transcripts, diplomas, certifications, professional certifications (e.g medical doctor, dentist), union memberships.
• Health/social insurance details
• Insurance policies
• Inventory of household and business belongings being brought into the country.
• Mail redirection and return
• Marriage certificate
• Medical records, including list of prescription medication being taken
• Military service record
• Passport
• Proofs of purchase, including amount paid and date of purchase, for any expensive and/or professional item on which customs duty might be charged
• Religious documents, such as baptism, confirmation certificates
• Social Security details
• Unemployment benefits
• Vaccination records or certificates
• Visa (if required from your own country to enter Norway)
