Join the Documentary Film Group at DOGA on Tuesday, September 22 at 18:00 for a documentary about the secret workings of China's Communist Party and a Chinese mayor's mission to revitalize his city's decrepit infrastructure and economic prospects. THE CHINESE MAYOR (2015) won the special jury prize at this year's Sundance Film Festival "for gaining such extraordinary trust and intimacy with its main character and thereby revealing a world which is increasingly relevant today." Through his fascinating if guarded, ever on-the-go protagonist, director Hao Zhou provides a rare inside-look at local Chinese politics. Serving as a microcosm for the larger issues facing the rapidly changing nation as a whole, this profile of the city of Datong -- once the thriving capital of Imperial China -- reveals the contradictions faced in the pursuit of progress, as well as the personal price paid by Mayor Geng Tanbo. The film will be introduced by Alexandra Cruz, project manager for Oslo Architecture Triennale which, among other things, fosters public debates around architecture and urbanism. Tickets are 80 kroner at Norsk design- og arkitektursenter (DOGA), Hausmanns gate 16.
