Discover Ancient Life in Slemmestad – A Fun Fossil Hunt!
Join us on Sunday, April 27th, from 10:00 to 13:00 for an exciting fossil adventure in Slemmestad with Lars B. Hübert (Ginny´s son)! This event is perfect for all ages and can be a great family activity.
We'll start at the soccer field in Slemmestad, and then we will to walk an ancient Ordovician seabed, spotting fossilized squid, crinoids, and more. Over 465 million years ago, this area was a tropical ocean near the equator!
Next, we'll visit Fossil Valley, where you can try your luck at finding trilobites in the limestone. If you're still eager for more, we'll explore the Cambrian shale, searching for fascinating graptolite fossils.
What to Bring: ✔ Magnifying glass ✔ Geologist’s hammer (I’ll bring extras) ✔ Rock chisel (avoid carpenter’s hammers, as they can splinter) ✔ Safety glasses – a must for hammering! ✔ Bag for fossils ✔ Camera ✔ Reflective vest (for roadside fossil hunting) ✔ Water bottle & snacks
✔ Packed Lunch (optional)
This is a hands-on experience where we can look, touch, and explore, but since it’s a protected heritage site, we cannot take fossils from the Ordovician seabed.
Come along for a day of discovery, learning, and family-friendly fun!
