Gothenburg, Sweden hosts the largest film festival in the Nordic countries. They say on their website that at the upcoming festival, “... about 250 films from some 80 countries will be shown in about 700 screenings.” Impressive! For movie buffs, even just going for a weekend presents a “luxury problem” of figuring out what to see.
If you would like to take in some movies, explore the city, shop, and/or enjoy good food and company, please join us for this a la carte trip. With the exception of two pandemic years, we have been enjoying the festival since 2014. An additional traditional highlight is Saturday dinner with members of our sister club AWC Gothenburg. Last year we were also joined by members from AWC Denmark and AWC Finland.
We will stay at the Avalon Hotel (www.avalonhotel.se). It is centrally located, a stone’s throw from the multiplex cinema that anchors the festival, and a comfortable walk from several other theaters. If the Avalon doesn’t suit you. the Hotel Flora (www.hotelflora.se/) is equally convenient.
Arrival and departure times are up to you. Vy trains between Oslo Central Station and Gothenburg run six times a day. A group of us usually takes the mid-morning train. Others make the trip after work. Likewise, some of us leave Gothenburg late Sunday afternoon, while others schedule their departure in accordance with the movies they are seeing that day or the demands of home.
Coordination of travel, movie selections and the like will take place closer to the trip.
