Tourist In Your Own City Oslo 2016

Join May Wenche Dahle for this (free!) small group outing and see your city from a different perspective in a relaxed, fun, and educational setting!

"Tourist in your own city” is an annual event organized by Oslo kommune and VisitOslo to encourage the city’s inhabitants to visit museums and see what the city has to offer. On this day, if you have picked up your free Oslo pass at the City Hall, there are no entrance fees at several museums and you can ride public transportation for free. http://www.visitoslo.com/en/whats-on/tourist-in-your-own-city/

May writes, "I have chosen three exhibitions for the day, all at locations close to the city hall. It would be nice if you can join me for all three, but let me know if you can only make it to one or two. We will pick up the Oslo passes at 9.30 am, so it will be a long day but hopefully a fun and interesting day. The times are not set in stone, apart from the reservation at Albert’s Bistro!"

10 am: Nobel Peace Center for a guided tour in English and visit the exhibition “The Tunisian Method”. https://www.nobelpeacecenter.org/en/

12 pm: Astrup Fearnley Museet, we will go see the exhibition “Bildungsroman” by Matthew Barney, an American contemporary artist. To quote the museum: his work in the 1990’s profoundly changed the language of sculpture.  http://www.afmuseet.no/en/utstillinger/2016/matthew-barney

13.30 pm: Lunch at Albert’s Bistro, enjoy the French kitchen while we hopefully engage in some interesting discussions. We will get a 10 % discount on food with the Oslo pass. I have not preordered food, only booked a table. You can take a look at the menu here: http://www.albertbistro.no/

15.30 pm: The National Gallery where we will look at the exhibit “Along the Coast”, with paintings of Hans Gude and his students from around 1870 ( Gude is famous for his collaboration with Adolph Tiedemand, especially the painting “Bridal Procession on the Hardanger Fjord”).

Register by sending May an e-mail at maywenchedahle@yahoo.no before Friday April 15 at 7 pm. Let her know if you will be bringing anyone-- there is a maximum of 8 people for this event! Cancellations no later than Saturday April 16 at 4 pm. Apart from the lunch, this is a free event!

May Wenche Dahle is a recent (and very welcome addition!) to the American Women's Club. Originally from Trøndelag, she has been living in Oslo since 2001. When she is not teaching math, English and religion at Belset ungdomsskole in Bærum, she loves to travel, visit art museums and go to Springsteen concerts. She joined the AWC because longtime member Berit told her she would love it and she does! Now she is missing her American family and friends a little less.
